As singer-songwriter Carrie Underwood shimmered on stage in a short Badgley Mischka dress during the 2017 Academy of Country Music (ACM) live awards event, fashion designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka were busy finalizing preparations for the design duo’s first-ever home furnishings collection debut, set for the April High Point Market.
Badgley Mischka Home will consist of over 200 SKUs including dining, living, and bedroom furniture, as well as accent and occasional items, upholstered seating and decorative accessories. The collection spans a variety of style categories, in which metal elements feature prominently, as well as luxury fabrics and fresh wood finishes.
Known today as fashion designers-to-the-stars, the pair met while studying at Parsons School of Design and together formed Badgley Mischka in 1988. They were named to Vogue magazine’s “Top 10 American Designers” list and have outfitted Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Rhianna, among a host of celebrities. At this year’s Academy Awards “Oscars” ceremony, ABC-TV host Robin Roberts wore a full-length column of gold metallic sequins from Hollywood’s go-to fashion label for red carpet events.
Though their design bona fides were earned in the fashion industry, Mark Badgley and James Mischka have long nurtured an interest in designing furniture.
“We are thrilled to see this collection come to life,” says Mark Badgley. “It has been a wonderful labor of love to combine our passions for interior design and fashion design. Each piece we’ve created for Badgley Mischka Home really is an extension of our aesthetic and what we love – both on the runway and in our own home.”
“To be able to design pieces that we hope will create amazing environments and moments at home for our customers is a thrill and something we’ve always wanted to do,” says James Mischka.
Mark Badgley and James Mischka will be on hand for a meet-and-greet event in their InterHall showroom, space IH203, on Saturday, April 22, from 10 am to noon, and on Sunday, April 23, from 9 to 11 am. The event is open to High Point Market attendees.
