IMC and Christopher Guy Announce New Construction in High Point

First Building from Ground Up in More than a Decade

High Point, NC – (April 14, 2016) –  International Market Centers (IMC) and Christopher Guy today announced their collaboration on a new 20,000 square-foot building to be constructed between Violino (123 South Hamilton Street) and New Classic Home Furnishings (135 South Hamilton Street) in downtown High Point. The contemporary structure, which will feature two floors, state-of-the-art features and an exterior infinity pool encircling the property, is scheduled for completion in 2017.  IMC is building the structure for Christopher Guy, who will be the tenant. Christopher Guy will relocate from their current High Point showroom at 418 South Wrenn Street.

“This announcement is significant for the City of High Point, High Point Market and IMC,” says Scott Eckman, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Furniture Leasing for IMC. “To have a stunning, design-driven resource this close to the heart of the Market district, completely new construction, is really remarkable and a continuation of our commitment to market. We have invested $27M toward its success for the past five years in the form of upgrades to our buildings; this is our first highly visible project. Further, we have an opportunity to partner with one of the most highly-regarded designers in the industry on this exclusive property – it’s a true win-win for everyone.”

"Over recent years with so many changes in our industry, questions were inevitably raised about the future role of the High Point Market,” explains Christopher Guy Harrison, Founder of Christopher Guy. “Based on our sales, we have little doubt that High Point is, and will remain the epicenter of the North American furniture industry, and one of our most important showrooms in the Americas. For me to be allowed to design a new CG showroom on such a fabulous site, is a rare and extraordinary opportunity and honor, in which we fully share the incredible vision of IMC in their continuous development of the Market.”

The building is the first High Point Market-purposed property to be constructed from the ground up since 2005, according the City of High Point Planning and Development Office. IMC is working with local architect Peter Freeman with Freeman Kennett Architects on the construction. The attached rendering of the property will have a host of contemporary features and incorporate the latest technology. Freeman plans to enlist the services of local contractors for the project, which is slated for completion by Spring Market of 2017.
