Annina Fremgen
Annina Fremgen is a senior at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, MI, majoring in Furniture Design.  She is originally from Belgium and grew up in a small town in the Ozarks, Willow Springs, MO.  Annina found through platforms like Instagram and Pinterest her growing appreciation for interior spaces, architecture and product design.  With her background in fine art, she was drawn to the idea of creating individual sculptural pieces that could also serve a function in one’s home.  When Annina isn’t diligently working on school assignments, she enjoys playing tennis, going out with friends or simply having a quiet evening with her cat, Winston, watching Netflix.  Following graduation, she would like to pursue a career as a furniture designer where she can see her designs from concept to finished product.

Q&A

Why did you decide to pursue a design-related career?

I wanted the opportunity to present practical solutions for people, while still exercising my creativity.

Where do you imagine working when you graduate?

It’s hard to say now, but I imagine myself collaborating with a design team, either in the US or overseas. I’m leaning more towards designing historical pieces or transitional furniture, but would also love a chance at modern design.

What are a few of your favorite “designs,” whether home furnishings, apparel, logos, etc. and why?

I admire minimalist architecture that plays with light and shadow, as well as the works of Vanessa Barragao because of her use of texture.

What are you looking forward to the most with regard to attending High Point Market?

I am most excited about meeting those in the industry, as well as getting to see the overabundance of furniture!

How do you define outstanding design?

I feel that outstanding design considers everyone involved – from the manufacturer, to the merchant, to the consumer, and finally the environment.
